This was a very early portrait in oil on canvas from 2017, before I had started my daily drawings. I had been doing an occasional life drawing and painting class and found I enjoyed portraits so promised my friend David a portrait for his 60th birthday. It was eventually delivered just in time for his 61st! David is an upholsterer so I included a couple of the fabrics from his workshop in the picture as the wallpaper and on the sofa, and he keeps chickens. Dave, the cockerel, decided to join us when I was taking reference pictures and made an interesting focus.
